Primary School

Middle School

Studying in secondary school and completing the secondary education program gives children the opportunity to obtain a valuable OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) certificate. The OSSD is highly regarded not only in Canada, but also around the world, giving graduates the chance to enter the best universities in the world after graduation. International students can study for one or more years, complete the program and receive a diploma on an equal basis with local students.

From grades 9 to 11, students prepare for their final exams and study AP subjects, and in grade 12 they are certified. To successfully complete the program, students must gain at least 30 educational credits.

The curriculum stipulates the following disciplines:

Early Years Programme

  • Age of students – from 3.8 to 6 years,
  • The term of study is up to three years.

The JAS Preschool program is based on elements of the Reggio Emilia Early Learning Philosophy and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum with the addition of the Ontario Curriculum that reinforces children's desire to learn. Teaching takes place in the format of games and research, focused on the individual abilities of each pupil.

The school offers an educational environment that allows children to thrive while balancing the development of their social and emotional qualities and formal education. The curriculum is structured according to the IB Primary Curriculum and integrates the following areas: languages, mathematics, culture, sensory and practical life, STEAM and physical education.

During their time in kindergarten, children will be prepared for a more rigorous primary school program, gaining the necessary knowledge about the world around them and the academic plan, their strengths and abilities.

Summer Boarding Camp

  • Age of students  – from 11 to 16 years old,
  • The studying period is two weeks.

The Summer English Language Course, held on the J. Addison School campus in July-August, offers students a rich curriculum with regular language classes, excursions, and campus activities. During their stay in the camp, students are accommodated in a residence and receive three meals a day, round-the-clock support from qualified staff and an individual approach from teachers.

In English classes, students will focus on improving their overall level of proficiency – reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, knowledge of grammar and vocabulary,. Lessons are conducted in small groups, allowing pupils to receive attention to their progress and practice speaking skills with classmates.

In their free time, students will be able to visit the sights of the region, the campuses of universities such as York University, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, TMU and Wilfrid Laurier University, participate in Leadership Education and Academic Preparation master classes from the University of Toronto.

The course price already includes services such as accommodation and meals, airport transfers, insurance, all campus and off-site activities, study materials.

Summer Sport Day Camp

  • Age of students – from 8 to 13 years,
  • The studying period is two weeks.

Summer Day Camp, which organizes classes from July to August, offers children an engaging curriculum focused on sports and recreation. Under the guidance of qualified coaches, students will be able to learn basic skills and improve their existing abilities in sports such as football, volleyball, hockey, badminton, basketball and others. In the morning and afternoon, pupils attend various master classes, classes in arts and crafts.

The program divides children into two age groups: 8-10 and 11-13 years old. You can rest in the camp for 2-4 weeks, depending on the student's wishes - the courses recruit students every two weeks as part of the summer center.

Secondary School Credit Courses

  • Age of students – from 15 to 18 years,
  • Dates — July-August.

In the summer, classes are held on campus for high school students who need to collect missing academic credits or revise difficult subject topics. Revision programs cover the entire year of study material in a tight timeframe, giving a serious academic load to allow students to move on to the next grade without academic "debts".

Classes in subjects are conducted on weekdays from 9:30 to 15:45 with a lunch break.

J. Addison School (JAS) is a private boarding school offering a full cycle of school education: from early years to graduating grades. The institution is the only residential school in Markham.

Founded in 2002, J. Addison School began its educational activities with eight students in a small office building in Scarborough. After just over 10 years of innovation, improvement and development, the educational institution has an extensive campus that meets all modern trends in education. The Canadian school offers comfortable accommodation for students in grades 7-12, various playgrounds and sports grounds, specialized laboratories and many other facilities for the comprehensive development of its students.

Up to 300 students from 3 to 18 years old study at J. Addison School every year, receiving sought-after diplomas and applied knowledge focused on modernity. International students arrive at the J. Addison School for an average of one academic year to receive an OSSD diploma and the opportunity to continue their academic career at a selected university in Canada or another country. The educational methods at JAS are based on seven pillars: an inclusive learning environment, an effective adaptive program, technologies, modern resources and opportunities, interaction with parents, and active preparation for admission to higher education institutions. Educational process

Students receive comprehensive support from qualified teachers at every stage of their studies. High school students are given special attention in the process of preparing for the transition to university: a team of consultants meets with each of the students individually, works closely with them to discuss further goals, set realistic and progressive goals, and develop recommendations on the best way to achieve them.

Faculties and colleges

J. Addison School teaches a full cycle of school programs at four stages of education:

  • Early years (3-6 years old),
  • Grades 1-8 (7-14 years old),
  • Grades 9-12 (15-18 years old).

The school also has a summer department that organizes short-term seasonal programs for students aged 11-16.

Accommodation, meals, prices

During the academic year, three residences are open for students in grades 7-12.

  • Erie Hall and Simcoe Hall are mixed-use residences with open-plan rooms that can accommodate two to four students of the same gender and age. Each student lives in his own area with a single bed, table, chair and wardrobe, has access to the bathroom in the room,
  • Huron Hall currently serves as a residential block for boys. There are general sector rooms, each of which accommodates a maximum of five students; Students live in their own area, fenced off from other students and fully furnished.

Each residence has lounges, kitchenettes and dining areas for preparing snacks, self-service launderettes, high-speed Wi-Fi, wired Internet access and a telephone. The buildings are guarded with modern security systems in addition to round-the-clock supervision.

When accommodated in residences, students receive three meals a day from a balanced menu based on international cuisine. Experienced chefs develop menus for seven days a week, providing a wide range of delicious dishes from around the world that meet nutritional guidelines.

During summer programs, students are accommodated in quadruple rooms with bathrooms and receive three meals a day.

Activities J. Addison school

As a member of the York Region Athletics Association, J. Addison School offers several sports taught by qualified coaches at a higher level than other schools. The sections are accessible to students with any skill level and are focused on consistently improving individual abilities and teamwork. During the year, students can practice such sports as athletics, football, badminton, basketball, and volleyball. National teams include students of the same sex competing at the regional level with teams from other institutions.

A diverse leisure program is provided for each academic department, aimed at comprehensive development, broadening the horizons and having fun for students.

At the same time, all JAS students annually participate in such events as:

The total area occupied by the school reaches 6,500 square meters. m.; construction is currently underway to increase the area to 12,000 square meters. m. so that the school can teach up to 800 students at a time.

On the J. Addison School campus are:

The academic year at JAS lasts from September to mid-June, and includes several semesters. Enrolment process

The admissions committee recommends applying as early as possible to guarantee a place in the residence and apply for a visa on time.

The admission process consists of several stages:

  • Filling out a detailed questionnaire, providing the required documents and paying the registration fee,
  • After the application is confirmed by the admissions committee, the applicant receives a preliminary letter of admission. During the review of the application, the candidate may be scheduled for an interview,
  • Payment of tuition fees,
  • Once the student visa is received, a copy of it and tickets should be mailed to the commission staff to confirm the date of arrival and arrange a meeting,
  • Passing an assessment test upon arrival on campus,
  • Beginning of training.

According to annual statistics, 100% of JAS graduates continue their education at the universities of their choice, including:

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

International applicants wishing to obtain an OSSD diploma at JAS must provide:

  • Personal documents: passport, vaccination card and health insurance, visa or residence permit,
  • Academic report cards for the last three years.

During the admission process, each foreign candidate will take a language test to determine the level of English proficiency.

Scholarships J. Addison school

The school offers several scholarship programs covering tuition costs.:

  • Regional scholarship for academic achievements — 5000 $CAD,
  • Scholarship for excellence and talent in a particular field of study (including athletic achievements),
  • Scholarship for students with IELTS 5.5 and above — 1,500 $CAD.

Scholarships are awarded after reviewing applications to those students who demonstrate outstanding performance, ability to engage in creative and innovative activities, and talent for learning. Students should have significant achievements in extracurricular activities such as art and sports, and the candidate's social activities, including school life, are important. The scholarship allows the student not only to receive partial or full reimbursement of tuition costs, but also to prove himself.
